Athens Pizza: A Longtime Favorite That Never Disappoints

Lately, I’ve been taking a trip down memory lane with my food reviews, revisiting restaurants I grew up enjoying. And while I know I’ve been spending a lot of time in my childhood and young adulthood, I genuinely believe these longtime establishments deserve some attention.

That brings me to Athens Pizza in North Decatur, a restaurant I’ve been visiting since high school. And after all these years, it hasn’t missed a beat. The food is just as good as I remember, every single time.

So, what should you order?

Santorini Pizza + Gyro MeatMy go-to

Well, obviously, the pizza! But not your typical pepperoni or sausage. Athens Pizza offers delicious Greek specialty pizzas, and my absolute favorite is the Santorini: artichokes, sun-dried tomatoes, Kalamata olives, and feta. I always add gyro meat, and let me tell you, it is SO good! I rarely stray from it.

Cheesy Garlic BreadHuge portion

This isn’t your average little basket of garlic bread. It’s a massive half-loaf covered in gooey, melted mozzarella and served with a side of red sauce. Delicious, and generous!

The cheesy garlic bread: a half-loaf, plenty to share.
Tzatziki SauceIncredible

This is what tzatziki is supposed to taste like. It’s so good that I actually dip my pizza in it. Yes, my pizza! Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it.

Yaya BitesGreat starter

Shredded pita, gyro meat, feta, and tomatoes, served with that amazing tzatziki. A great way to taste their Greek flavors without committing to a full entrée.

Gyros & PastaHit

Wonderful pasta dishes and seriously good gyros, whether you prefer the traditional beef and lamb or chicken.

They also have cheese sticks and plenty of other options, so there’s genuinely something for everyone.

Bottom line

What I appreciate most about Athens Pizza is that it hasn’t lost what made it special in the first place. I’ve been eating here since I was a teenager, and decades later, I can still walk in knowing I’m going to get a good meal.

Athens Pizza is a longtime gem in the North Decatur/Druid Hills area, and it’s absolutely worth a visit. If you’re in the neighborhood and haven’t tried it, do yourself a favor and stop by. You won’t be disappointed!
